Premium Barn Paint

Premium Barn Paint is a genuine low maintenance, satin finish, water-based acrylic coating for exterior use on wooden cladding, timber boards, timber windows etc. It also offers excellent adhesion to a lots of other substrates such a weathered galvanised steel, plastic guttering and down pipes, reducing labour costs and the need for additional specialist primers.

Premium Barn Paint is particularly moisture vapour permeable and formulated to provide an excellent extensible coating film which will flex with the natural expansion and contraction of the substrate, rather than flaking or cracking, keeping its satin finish despite UV exposure and intense weathering. It has the unusual property of being particularly stable when applied over old weathered creosote, bitumen and black tar varnished timber surfaces (after the weathered/dusty surface is cleaned down, and the first coat is thinned with 20-30% water, apply a test patch before use to ensure compatibility).

Application
All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from oil wax, grease, dust, loose particles etc. which may interfere with the adhesion of the coatings to be applied. Stir thoroughly. Apply using an SRT brush, roller or airless spray equipment.
Sound bare timber: Apply 2-3 unthinned coats, (on old or, very porous timber the first coat should be thinned with 20-30% clean water).
Sound previously painted surfaces: Remove all loose and flaking paint, thoroughly abrade all surfaces to be decorated to provide a key. Apply 2-3 unthinned coats, (on very porous timber, and/or, where there is still some previous tar varnish / bitumen on the timber, the first coat should be thinned with 20-30% clean water).
Sound weathered plastic/GRP: (Guttering, downpipes, gas meter cupboards etc.) Apply 2-3 unthinned coats.
Weathered galvanised steel: Apply 2-3 unthinned coats.
Ferrous metal surfaces: (mild steel etc.) Remove all rust. Prime with a suitable ferrous metal primer. Apply 2-3 unthinned coats of Premium Barn Paint.

To minimise the risk of resin and extractive discolouration, a blocking primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 is recommended before applying Premium Barn Paint - White only.

Theoretical coverage 13 square meters per litre, practical coverage approximately 8-10 square meters per litre. Coverage may vary depending on the porosity and surface profile. Touch dry in 20 minutes, recoatable in 4 hours. These times are based on a temperature of 20°C, normal relative humidity and good drying conditions. Do not apply when there is a risk of rain, or when application or drying temperatures are below 10°C.

Premium Barn Paint is available in Black and White in 5 litre containers only.
