Sadolin Ultra Basecoat
Sadolin Ultra Basecoat (Clear) is a clear basecoat only for use as the first coat on new/bare timber, and forms part of the Sadolin Ultra exterior woodstain coating system. It must be overcoated with Sadolin Ultra.On new or bare timber: Sadolin recommend the following system; 1 coat Sadolin Ultra Basecoat (Clear) followed by 2 coats Sadolin Ultra. This is fine if you are using a very lightly pigmented colour such as Pine, Golden Maple or New Pine and wish to minimise any colour change. However if you are using any of the stronger pigmented colours we suggest you just use 3 coats of Sadolin Ultra and ignore the Clear Basecoat. You may be asking why? Well the reason is, that in our comparison tests, using 3 coats of Sadolin Ultra (darker pigmented colours - Walnut, Mahogany) directly onto pine, increased the perceived contrast in the grain of the timber, resulting in a more visible grain structure. Do your own tests if your not sure. We checked with Sadolin and they were happy with our suggestion, infact it appears that Sadolin Ultra Basecoat (Clear) uses the same resin formulation as Sadolin Ultra, with a slightly lower viscosity, and without any pigments.
Coverage for each coat: Planed softwood/hardwood 12-15 square meters per litre. Touch dry in minimum of 5-7 hours, recoatable after a minimum of 18 hours. These times are based on a temperature of 20°C, normal relative humidity and good drying conditions. NOTE: Please refer to the technical data sheet for full product details.
Sadolin Ultra Basecoat is only available in a 'clear' finish, in both 1 and 2.5 litre sizes.
