Polyvine oil based scumble is traditonal solvent-borne transparent oil glaze, with an extended drying time. Clear medum used to produce a glaze or scumble by the addition of stainers for broken colour effects such as stippling, rag rolling, dragging, toning and wiped effects as well as wood graining and marbling. Dries to a translucent gloss finish.
We've introduced this product as an alternative to the recently reformulated J H Ratcliffe's Transparent Oil Glaze due to complaints in the industry about the Ratcliffe's product.
It is not intended for use as a clear protective film. Due to its traditional formulation it has a natural tendency to yellow slowly on ageing and in conditions of darkness, or, yellow rapidly at elevated temperatures (e.g. radiators, hot water pipes).
Use Polyvine Oil Colourant's to tint, or other good quality paint stainers such as artists oil colours, but it is advised to avoid the lower cost artists oil colours. You should ensure that any stainer is suitable, lightfast and unaffected by acid conditions (as the glaze medium is slightly acidic). Alternatively, you can also order Polyvine's traditional pre-tinted scumble if you wish.
Drying time approximately 24 hours minimum. These times are based on a temperature of 20°C, normal relative humidity and normal drying conditions. Do not apply if temperatures are below 10°C, especially in areas of low ventilation. Theoretical coverage 10-20 square meters per litre.
