Rustins Aluminium Wood Primer is a specialist problem solving, solvent-borne alkyd primer which uses aluminium leafing pigment to produce an effective metallic barrier, which seals timber surfaces and prevents extractive discolouration of the final paint coating film. It resists oily exudations of interior and exterior hardwoods and resinous softwoods affecting the drying of subsequently applied paint coating systems.

Particularly suitable for use on Oregon Pine, Douglas Fir and other resinous or oily softwoods and all hardwoods, but bear in mind that it is not a substitute for knotting. Suitable for overcoating with conventional alkyd undercoats and gloss/satin finishes, as well as modern decorative water-borne paints and coatings - once all solvents have fully evaporated.

Preparation: Wood surfaces to be primed must be dry, clean, smooth and free from dust, oil, grease, wax and other contaminants likely to interfere with adhesion. All knots should be sealed with knotting solution before priming. Application: Stir thoroughly before and during use. The first coat may be thinned with 10% white spirit if necessary. Apply by brush or roller. After priming, holes and cracks may be filled with a suitable wood filler. Apply 1 or 2 coats depending on requirements. Drying Time: Touch dry within 3 hours at 20 deg C and normal humidity. Fully dry in 12- 16 hours. Re-coating Time: Minimum 16 hours should be allowed before overcoating. Temperature and humidity will affect these times. Do not apply when temperatures are below 10 deg C during application or drying period, or in conditions of high humidity . Theoretical coverage: Up to 15 square metres/litre per coat depending on absorbency and surface profile. Clean-up: White Spirit/Brush restorer. Note: Must be overcoated with a suitable paint finish once fully dry.

Aluminium Wood Primer has a grey finish, and is available in 250ml metal cans only.
